Youth Employment Program

Provides New York City youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with employment and educational experiences that capitalize on their individual strengths, develop their skills and competencies, and connect them to positive adult role models.

Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)

SYEP provides 6-7 weeks of entry-level work experience in a variety of jobs at community-based organizations, government agencies, and private sector businesses. In 2014, DYCD employed approximately 40,000 participants and placed them at 5,677 worksites.

Participants, ages 14-24, work in a variety of entry-level jobs at government agencies, hospitals, summer camps, nonprofits, small businesses, law firms, museums, sports enterprises, and retail organizations.

SYEP is designed to:

  • Emphasize real-world labor expectations
  • Increase awareness of services offered by local community-based organizations
  • Provide opportunities for career instruction, financial literacy training, academic improvement, and social growth.

To apply for SYEP you can: Apply online or complete the application and return it to MMCC. Applications are also available at MMCC Monday through Friday 4:30pm to 5:30pm.

Work Learn Grow

The Work Learn Grow (WLG) Employment Program is sponsored by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development.

How to Apply: To be eligible for the Work, Learn & Grow Employment program, you must:

  • Be an SYEP participant
  • Be between the ages 16-21
  • Currently enrolled in school

(Participants are selected through a lottery selection process)

High School Equivalency

FREE classes for young people aged 18+ looking to get their High School Equivalency Diploma (formerly known as GED).

Taught by experienced HSE Instructors, students will get hands-on learning experiences to prepare for the TASC exam. Tutoring sessions are also offered.

Take advantage of this opportunity to get the help you need in passing the exam and obtain your high school equivalency diploma so you can meet your educational and career goals!

Registration includes filling out required registration materials, an interview and/or orientation session, and completing a TABE test. We offer 2 convenient locations within the Bronx:
