Our Staff

Mosholu counselors understand their important role as mentors. They gently encourage campers to explore and try, and they help children to learn to solve problems and overcome obstacles. Our counselors are trained to identify and meet the needs of individual children, as well as to develop spirited and cohesive groups. Mosholu staff training does not end at Orientation. Head Counselors, Activity Specialists and Directors mentor our staff daily.

Each counselor is personally interviewed by our Unit Supervisors. They are put through extensive background checks and trainings during the off season and are the ideal role models for your children.

The majority of our general counselor staff members are 19 years old and in college. The rest of the staff is made up of specialists and activity leaders whom are college graduates with degrees in areas of childcare, social work or other related fields.

The Supervisory staff are experienced educators and child care workers who take on leadership roles throughout camp. These individuals work with the children on a day-to-day basis and are the people who will be available to work with parents on the campers individual summer of safety and fun.

Accreditation

Mosholu is proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association! The American Camp Association is a community of camp professionals dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults through the camp experience.

A cornerstone of the ACA’s efforts is its Accreditation process – a way of grading how camps are doing. The Standards against which camps are measured ensure that each camp complies with specific health, safety and program quality benchmarks. Beyond New York State’s basic licensing requirements, ACA Standards address specific areas of programming, personnel, health care, emergency response, and management practices and youth development. Standards are applied to all activities in camp including aquatics, archery, challenge activities, and travel and trip programs. Camps and ACA form a partnership that promotes growth and fun in an environment committed to safety.

ACA Accreditation is the best evidence parents have of a camp’s commitment to a safe and nurturing environment for their children. ACA Accreditation means your child’s camp cares enough to undergo regular reviews of its operation. So if you’re looking for a quality day camp, then you are in the right place.
