Medication Policy

The Mosholu Montefiore Child Care Center, which includes our sites in the North Bronx at the Community Center, North Side Annex, Rochambeau Annex and our Coop City site at Aldrich Avenue, do not administer medication, with the only exception being emergency medications.  The agency’ s policy does not allow for any child with an acute illness to attend school on those days which obligate the child to take medication during the school hours.  Any child ill enough to require medication should remain at home under parental supervision or arrange with the child’s physician a regimen that allows the medication to be administered before and after school.  In addition, if your child has been absent because of illness, you are obligated upon your child’s to return to school, to provide a note from the physician stating that the child is well enough to attend school and is no longer contagious.  Should a child require an emergency medication on a one time need, such as Benedryl or Epinephrine SC or SQ, the program needs a completed medication administration package signed by you and the child’s physician detailing the physical signs, medication dosage and routes.  If a child is an asthmatic and needs a rescue medication, the program will have a record with the physical signs, medication and routes detailed from the physician.  Each emergency medication will be evaluated on an as needed basis by the Educational Director and staff pediatrician.  Each medication will be administered by specifically selected members of staff at each individual site.  The medication will be properly labeled and stored under lock and key.  The expiration date must be clearly marked on the medication and must be checked and rechecked by the physician, parent and director.
