The Co-op City Child Development Center has been serving the needs of the Co-op City community for over a dozen years.  The Center is conveniently located on Aldrich Street, one block away from the corner of Bartow and Baychester Avenues.  This 5,000 square foot space comprises 5 classrooms, a kitchen and an enclosed outdoor playground.  We are open weekdays from  8:00am–6:00pm with  extended hours from 7:30am to 8:00am for an additional fee. The new hours of operation as of June 29th will be 7:30am to 6:00 pm. Healthy and nutritious breakfast and snack are provided at no additional cost.

The Co-op City Center offers a variety of programs for children ages 1 – 5 years.

Our Infant and Toddler program provides a warm and nurturing environment for children ages 12 months through 36 months.  The children are taught based on The Creative Curriculum for Infants & Toddlers which emphasizes the building of responsive relationships with each child and his/her family, the creation of a warm and welcoming environment that supports each individual child’s growth and development, the use of routines as opportunities for growth and learning, and the providing of activities that facilitate the children’s growth and development.  Our infant and toddler classrooms are sensory and language enriched, providing the children with experiences that enable them to explore their surroundings using their sense of taste, touch, smell, sight and sound.

Our Preschool program for 3 year-olds and our Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program for 4 year-olds are both taught utilizing The Creative Curriculum for Preschool.  This curriculum focuses on the four basic areas of development:  social/emotional development (sense of self, responsibility for self and others, prosocial behavior), physical development (gross and fine motor), cognitive development (learning and problem solving, logical thinking, representation and symbolic thinking) and language development (listening and speaking, reading and writing). Our classrooms are print and language enriched and arranged in interest areas.  The children are provided daily with opportunities to make choices, as well as explore and learn.

The Co-op City Center offers UPK to every child who turns 4 before December 31st of that school year.  We offer both a free, 2 hour program that is funded by New York State and a full day program option.
